Meet Charles Drobny of GlobaLogix in Northwest Corridor

Posted on | Posted in News

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Drobny.

Charles, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
GlobaLogix began with six oil and gas veterans in 2004 to provide instrumentation and control systems to midstream operators. The company gained its first project in 2005 to design and direct the installation of a SCADA system for Queensland Gas in Australia.

In 2006 I joined the company and began recruiting field service technicians and gaining customers to install SCADA systems primarily in East Texas and the Barnett Shale. The business expanded rapidly through 2008 and was named to the Inc 50 fastest growing companies in the US. We expanded our engineering capabilities and added design services to a growing list of oil and gas midstream companies through the 2008 economic downturn. By 2011 the company had field service locations in Fairfield, Carthage and Weatherford, Texas; and in Canonsburg PA.

In 2012 senior management changed and C Drobny was elevated to President from his role as VP Operations. The company realigned its priorities from rapid sales growth to focus on increasing profitability. In 2014 as the price of oil fell from over $100 to below $30 and companies drastically cut their CapEX spending the company reduced headcount and closed under producing offices in PA and TX. In 2015 GlobaLogix entered the Agricultural Market and gained customers in the animal feed processing space. That growth continues today.

As oil continues it’s slow recovery, the company is experiencing slow but steady growth targeting a return to its former levels of income and profitability. Today GlobaLogix serves customers in the Permian Basin, the Eagle Ford and Baaken, along with several agricultural projects scattered in the Western US.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While the 2008 economic downturn was less of an impact, the current long slump in oil and gas has been very difficult. Oil and Gas companies slashed their capital budgets and canceled or placed most projects on hold.

While our service agreements with over 1oo companies continue we currently have projects with under 20 companies. While we maintain the overhead capacity to return to previous levels revenue remains below previous highs and profitability is irregular.

Our current staff of very capable and experienced SCADA engineers, programmers, designers, installers, and technicians is solid and we are presently expanding our workforce in a market that has shed over 250K experienced employees. The market for skilled labor has become very tight.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about GlobaLogix, Inc. – what should we know?
We focus on integrating new equipment into legacy systems where the existing equipment is older, less capable and populated by varieties of equipment manufacturers and type.

Our techniques of assembling, deploying and managing installation crews enable our customers to avoid lost time on site and results in faster and effective installations that our competitors cannot match. We bundle or unbundle any portion of the spectrum from the wellhead to the website and match our engagement adding or subtracting services to fit each customer’s own internal capabilities.

We fit well into existing systems, perform functional acceptance testing and stick around to ensure that systems work as the customer expects.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The willingness to take on every aspect the job may require, deploy quickly to any geographic area and manage each project to avoid delay and lost time.

Not Enough People.

Our nation faces a monumental demographic problem – not enough people. Our birthrate, long below growth rate, is approaching non sustainability. Europe is already in the tank.
